Ep. #14 – Exploring the Seawall

Everyone kept telling me I had to walk the Seawall before leaving, so I did.

It’s not so much a wall than a two lane pedestrian path, and I walked it around to the Cauldron because you can’t not see that in person.  It’s very luminous.

Thanks for being my producer today, Mary, you’re the best at it I’ve had.

Hey, Keri – just thought I’d let you know that I really appreciate the ‘Keri-Eye-View’ of Vancouver, You’re doing stories I don’t see anyone else doing. Reading about the Seawall somewhere else is nowhere near as fun as ‘walking it’ with you. I can see I really have to get up there again. Oh, what a beautiful city!

  2. JACK says:

Do you always quickly delete critical comments on your website? Part of being a good "journalist" as you call yourself is having the savvy to rebuff and be tough, which you’re not.

  3. KeriCDN says:

Hey Lucian – thanks dude, I love it here and it shows, eh.

For sure I’m getting the glossy view of the city, but regardless, it’s easy to see why the classic story goes, "I visited Vancouver and never left". And knowing what I do about you, I think you’d feel right here.

  4. KeriCDN says:

Hey Jack – you must be paying close attention because that was the first blog comment I’ve ever deleted. The first line was too personal, the rest was fine, but that’s why it’s gone.

But okay, let’s talk about it. Think there were three points…

1 – "stop deluding myself about my self importance" – nah dude, come on. I put all my mistakes online and don’t use braggy-kinda language. I’m probably as surprised as you that I’m here doing this. Are you new to my blog?

2 – Sure, ’24 Hours’ is a commuter paper, but I wouldn’t go so far as to call it a tabloid. And for sure that’s more popular than heavier papers, otherwise wouldn’t libraries and in-depth books be more popular?

3 – I like my microphone, it’s resourceful I think. Plus you can’t just attach a real one to my camera, they wouldn’t work together technically, you know? You’re one of the few out there that don’t like it.

Was it you who wrote it? Do we know each other? You seem to have a lot of anger towards me.

  5. Old friend says:

Ahh – Thanks for this Keri. It brings back wonderful memories – I can imagine the ocean mist on me right now.

  6. Nathan says:

Ah, my hometown. Thanks for sharing the beauty!

  7. Carolyn says:

I’m new to your blog, and I think you’re fantastic! It’s a refreshing approach, especially to the Olympics coverage. I haven’t spent much time in Van, but you’ve definitely highlighted some things that I’ll look up when I’m back there :)

  8. Brad says:

    Hi Keri,
This is Brad from the Heineken House last week (trying to get the friggin’ Surface Table to work when it was all in Dutch). ;-)

I just wanted to say that I caught your recent 24 Hours mini-editorial in yesterday’s paper. I loved your closing comment about how Vancouver has gotten under your skin. We hope to see you back here sometime soon. Perhaps, when the great summer weather kicks in around July/August.

Have a safe trip back and keep on bloggin’…

    Cheers,
    Brad

  9. KeriCDN says:

I’m with ya, Old Friend, there’s something about the mist, eh.

  10. KeriCDN says:

Hi, Nathan! That’s cool you grew up here, $5 says you move back ;)

  11. KeriCDN says:

Thanks for this Carolyn, that’s motivating.

And I can’t wait to go back, seriously debating setting up a new HQ there.

  12. KeriCDN says:

Hey thanks Brad, it’s always good to know people when moving to a new place. Like how I worded that so proactively? :)

And _why_ would they make the Surface be all in Dutch? Dumb!
