Just Finished this Book

april 13 2009
See it here at Chapters.  It’s written by James R. Davis, an ex-Canadian-soldier turned security consultant.

I’m considering writing to him for advice on my trip… you know, planning my route, necessary provisions, maybe some fighting and surveillance skills.  I figure if he can do what he’s done all over the world my motor trip will be child’s play for him.

Just Re-Read This

No Coins, Please‘ by (Canadian) Gordon Korman.  This was a favorite book as a kid. january 17 2009

Now here’s something: it was retardly hard to find.  It took years of serious used-book store and flea-market vigilance; I actually got a bit obsessive about it.  It was like the book had just vanished.

So when I searched for it at Chapters.ca, to link it up above, I was surprised to see they had an abundance of copies.  So now I’m wondering if it’s been re-edited and would like to read the new version and test that theory.

A Collage from Work Today

I’m at the Tina Turner concert.  See that chair?  That’s me, 9 hours.  I wasn’t guarding so much as I was a “presence” (industry term, I did not make that up).december 12 2008

So I had a lot of time to daydream.  I also read an entire book, “Dirty Little Secrets of Buzz“, and if you are interested at all in marketing and online hustling, it’s terrific.

Oh, and you know how I said David emailed me tonight?  On my walk home it struck me it was an auto-responder I was talking to, not a human.  Wow, Keri.

For the Past Three Days…

… I’ve been working at  ‘The Royal Winter Agricultural Fair‘ or, ‘The Royal’, at Exhibition Place.  This is its 86th year, 350 000 people visit over 2 weeks, and it’s the largest indoor agricultural fair and international equestrian competition in the world.

Sunday I was a “roamer”, meaning I walked around keeping an eye out.  I passed a little kid at one point, who looked up at me and breathed out in awe, “ohhh, security”.  Yesssss.  Here are some things I saw:november 18 2008

From left to right:

  • neat painting, eh?  It won an award, but I forgot to write down the artist.  Email me if you know them
  • weighing in at 77.8lbs, this is the new ‘Guinness Book of World Records’ biggest-ever Rutabaga! Congratulations, Norman Lee Craven from Cannington, Ontario!
  • this sculpture is made entirely of butter.  HOW did they transport that?
  • I am very sick

Then Monday and Tuesday I was guarding a set of doors while the exhibitors dismantled and shipped off.  Pretty quiet post so I was able to finish my latest book, “PSI Spies“.  I already believed before I read it, now, even more so.  And there’s a “central premonition registry” out there?  I’m joining.
